Egypt is a Greek name which means "House of the Spirit of Ptah."
To the North is the Mediterranean Sea, Libya is to the west, to the south, the Sudanese border, to the east is the Red Sea. As well, Sinai borders Israel to the east. The desert plains are interrupted by the Nile River.
The climate is desert-like and dry, except for the area along the Mediterranean Sea. Because the NIle River floods every year, the land around it is quite fertile, and Egyptians have relied on its agricultural booty for centuries.
The Aswan Dam was built to help control the floods and protect the agriculture of Egypt.
